Spain has two major isles groups. One is the Canary Isles off the coast of Africa and the other, the Balearic Ises, is smack in the middle of the Mediterranean. Further information on Canaries and Balearics. While there are similarities within these groups, it is essential that the traveler is aware of the individual characters of the Spain isles, and do not try to refer to them all as one and the same thing. The Canaries are an archipelago of seven islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the north-western coast of Africa. These Spain isles are all of volcanic origin and as the grayish rock permeates the colour of the sand on the beaches, can seem somewhat barren to visitors. |

The Canaries are a popular tourist destination with due to the favourable climate and large expanses of beach, and islands such as Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are still welcoming large numbers of package holidaymakers at a time when independent travel is dominating tourist markets. All the isles are of volcanic origin and the climate is subtropical. The landscape is varied, and includes mountain ranges, valleys, deserts, cliffs, craters and forests. The Balearic Spanish isles are located in the western Mediterranean. The islands are divided into two main groups; Gimnesias (Gymnesian Islands) and Pitiusas (Pine Islands). The first one comprises the islands of Mallorca (also named Majorca), Menorca and Cabrera, and the latter one the Spanish isles of Ibiza and Formentera. |
Each of Balearics has its own specific atmosphere – Ibiza is a mix between beautiful scenery and frantic nightlife, Mallorca has a reputation of attracting the rich and famous to reside there, such as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, Michael Schumacher and Peter Stringfellow. Menorca is more of a quiet, family-oriented island. This is where there is a real difference between the island groups. The Canaries are further south, making them a favourite out-of-season destination for winter sun. The summer temperatures are tempered somewhat by the Atlantic breeze blowing across the Spain isles. The Balearics are a little more sheltered in the Mediterranean, and maintain similar temperatures to the Spanish mainland, making them hot in the summer months, and still warm enough in the winter to enjoy reasonable weather. They are, however, somewhat more rainy in winter than mainland Spain. |
In addition to Sanish isles, many Spain beaxhes offer an additional attraction close to many spectacular places. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea there are eleven different beaches: Costa Del Sol, Costa Tropical, Costa de Almeria, Costa Calida, Costa Blanca, Costa de Valencia Costa del Azahar, Costa Dorada Costa Maresme, the Costa Brava. To the west, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Spain also has a remarkable diversity among the eight beaches: Costa de la Luz, Rias Baixas, Costa da Morte, who Artábaro Bay Rias Altas, Costa Verde and Costa de Cantabria Cote Basque last the French border, San Sebastian winner glamorous beach.. |
El Hierro is located over 750 miles (1,200 km) from the Spanish mainland, and its stark, volcanic landscape harbors no coal or fossil fuels. Fresh water is scarce, and for electricity, its population of 10,000 has long depended on the diesel brought in weekly by tanker. Which is why, some 25 years ago, the islanders began thinking about ways to convert to renewable energy, using the two resources that they actually have a lot of: wind & ocean water. Gran Canaria and Tenerife is the island’s most visited and offer a variety of nightlife. Playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria is the largest resort in Europe and Europe as a premier gay destination and offers a great nude beach stretches several kilometers to the neighboring countries Maspalomas, the southernmost tip of Europe map. Thanks to this extraordinary number and variety of Spanish isles, Spain will no doubt one of the most popular travel destinations around the world. |
